John Mayall - Crusade (1967)

John Mayall is a British blues singer and multi-instrumentalist, who was a major figure in the 60s British blues scene.

With Peter Green having left the Bluebreakers to form Fleetwood Mac in 1967, John Mayall had yet again had to find a new lead guitarist. Green's replacement was an 18-year old prodigy by the name of Mick Taylor. A new drummer was also needed, as Mick Fleetwood had gone with Green, and Mayall found one in Keef Hartley. With the addition of Rip Kant and Chris Mercer on horns, and John McVie still on bass, this new Bluebreakers lineup recorded Crusade, released in late 1967. It was another solid album of electric British blues, forming the third part of an unintentional trilogy that began with Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton and A Hard Road. Mick Taylor's fluid lead guitar proved to be up to the task of following Clapton and Green, and unlike his predecessors he actually ended up staying with the Bluesbreakers for more than just one album. Though there would be many more confusing lineup changes over the next few years, Taylor stayed by Mayall's side for a while longer.
